Is wearing clothes that FIT our body type encouraging poor health in the name of body positivity?
The concepts of body positivity and well-fitting clothes are not mutually exclusive, and both can be important for an individual's self-confidence and overall well-being. We have tried to put our perspective forward at Mvse on how they relate to each other.
Body positivity is a movement that promotes acceptance and appreciation of all body types, regardless of societal standards or ideals. It emphasizes self-love, self-acceptance, and recognizing the inherent worth and beauty of every individual, regardless of their size, shape, or appearance. Body positivity encourages individuals to embrace their bodies as they are and reject harmful societal pressures related to beauty standards.
Wearing well-fitting & well tailored clothes can contribute to a person's comfort, confidence, and overall sense of well-being. Well-fitting clothes are tailored or designed to flatter an individual's unique body shape, enhancing their natural features and providing comfort in movement. When clothes fit properly, they can make a person feel more comfortable, confident, and at ease in their own body.
The key is to find a balance between body positivity and wearing well-fitting clothes. A lot of us tend to confuse finding comfort in "unhealthy' sizes as body positivity. At Mvse we are not promoting or condoning unhealthy lifestyles.
One can be a "large" size but be extremely fit, strong and healthy, eg large sized models, weightlifters, wrestlers, etc. One could also be a large size owing to health issues like PCOD/PCOS, diabetes, thyroid etc. One could simply be a "large" size owing to poor lifestyle choices made in earlier years but are on their journey to correct the same and become healthier and fitter versions of themselves.
Thin is a very subjective word. Not everyone views Sizes 0-8 as the size they wish to be. Mid sized women feel happy being voluptuous and fuller and don't find skinny as an unhealthy or an undesired size.
In all of the above cases, no matter your size, or your journey, everyone has the right to wear well fitted clothes TODAY to feel good and confident about themselves every moment they are alive. And THAT IS body positivity.
Body positivity encourages individuals to embrace their bodies and feel confident and comfortable in their own skin, irrespective of societal beauty standards. It emphasizes that all bodies are valid and deserving of respect and acceptance.
And that's what Mvse encourages. To wear well-fitting clothes to enhance a person's confidence and comfort by ensuring that their clothes fit and flatter their body shape. Well-fitting clothes are not about conforming to societal standards but rather about choosing garments that make an individual feel good and express their personal style, such as the Mvse tummy control pants.
It's important to note that well-fitting clothes can mean different things for different individuals. It's about finding clothing options that align with your body shape, personal preferences, and individual style. The focus should be on finding clothes that make you feel confident, comfortable, and authentic to yourself, rather than striving for a particular size or shape dictated by external factors.
Ultimately, body positivity and well-fitting clothes can go hand in hand. Embracing body positivity can help foster a positive self-image, while choosing well-fitting clothes can enhance comfort and confidence, allowing individuals to express their unique style and personality.
